The best time to plant a tree…
This newsletter is a place to show the background research that goes into planning a trip. After nine years of showcasing Nevada’s backroads by bike I have learned public lands and the communities they surround are far more complex than just beautiful and challenging places to travel through. As I research topics in geology, geography, history, anthropology, and ecology most of this is left out of a trip report in Bikepacking Northern Nevada. But these topics are inspiring to me and I hope you will find them informative and entertaining.
Calling all naturalists…
I always say, “Nevadans love to explore their state.” While I write from the saddle of a touring bike based in north western Nevada, I am speaking to all stewards, advocates, and activists who care about local, regional, and global issues impacting public lands. While I always start with the question, “Where does this road lead?” ultimately the journey is richer when I can identify the things around me, imagine what the people before me experienced here, ultimately put my journey in greater context than just a ride. This newsletter is my invitation for you to do the same.
I’m on the hook…
This will start as monthly newsletter of special topics that do not necessarily make it into Bikepacking Northern Nevada. My promise is to deliver accuracy and insight to diverse topics that surface in my travels, virtual and real, around the Great Basin. Your support and engagement is my motivation.
After following your posts, this is a perfect progression in your journey. Kudos and here's to the future!
